Mudavadi gifts football clubs in Kakamega during festive season

In the third-place playoffs, Mulembe United clinched a 2-1 victory against Nzoia Sugar, securing Sh350,000, while Nzoia pocketed Sh300,000.

Chief Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi has lauded the government's dedication to advancing sports, emphasising the continuous improvement in the sports sector.

This he said as a distinguished guest at the Elijah Lidonde Cup final in Kakamega held on Christmas Eve, December 24, 2023.

"Every day, sports is getting better and better, and we extend our gratitude to our sportsmen," acknowledged Mudavadi during the thrilling final at Bukhungu Stadium.

Kakamega Homeboyz secured a 1-0 victory over AFC Leopards, with Davis Kasirye netting the decisive goal in the 79th minute after coming on as a substitute for Moses Shummah.

Homeboyz claimed the coveted trophy and earned a substantial prize of Sh1.1 million, while Leopards received Sh600,000.

It was a pleasure to preside over the finals of the 2nd edition of the Elijah Lidonde Super Cup, in honour of Kenya’s football legend the Late Elijah Lidonde who was capped 26 times for the Kenya national football team between 1950 and 1961.

In the third-place playoffs, Mulembe United clinched a 2-1 victory against Nzoia Sugar, securing Sh350,000, while Nzoia pocketed Sh300,000. Adding to the excitement, the Prime CS had generously provided an additional Sh100,000 to all four participating clubs.

In a separate match, Legends FC, led by coach Alfred Imonje, dominated with a 3-0 win against 22Bet. Former internationals Victor Lidonde, Patrick Mugata, and Dannis Mukaisi were the scorers for the Legends.

Homeboyz had earned their place in the final by defeating Nzoia Sugar 2-0 in the semis, while AFC Leopards secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory against Mulembe United.

Beyond the on-field triumphs, the tournament underscored a commitment to supporting and acknowledging the contributions of clubs and players to the vibrant sports culture in the country.
