Aliou Cisse: Salary woes for Senegal head coach raises concerns ahead of AFCON

Notable achievements under Cisse's leadership include a remarkable 4-2 victory over Brazil in a friendly match in June and successful campaigns in AFCON and World Cup qualifiers. Cisse, Africa's longest-serving coach, assumed the role in 2015, leading Senegal to the Round of 16 in the 2018 and 2022 World Cups.

Senegal's football fans have expressed concern as national team coach Aliou Cisse faces six months without receiving his salary, potentially impacting the defence of their Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) title.

According to reliable sources, as reported by Pulse Sports, Cisse is owed €180,000 (Ksh31,045,341) due to the non-payment of his €30,000 (Ksh5,174,223) monthly salary over the past six months.

Reports suggest that the Senegal Football Association is actively working to ensure prompt payment to Cisse and his technical team before the tournament starts, aiming to prevent any distractions that could hamper their preparations.

Despite this financial setback, the esteemed coach has not taken legal action and continues to fulfil his coaching duties, guiding the team to three victories, three draws, and one loss.

Under his guidance, Senegal secured a fifth-place finish in the 2015 Africa Cup of Nations, emerged as runners-up in 2019, and clinched the championship in Cameroon in 2021.

Senegal finds itself in a challenging Group C for the upcoming tournament, alongside Cameroon, the Gambia, and Guinea, adding a layer of complexity to their AFCON campaign.
