Kenya's U17 women’s team wrapped up their World Cup journey with a 2-1 win over Mexico on Thursday morning. Despite earlier defeats to England and North Korea that ended their hopes of advancing, the team returns home proud of becoming Kenya’s first football team to participate in a World Cup.

In their World Cup debut, Kenya sought their first goals and victory in the match against Mexico. Their campaign started with a 2-0 loss to England last Friday, followed by a 3-0 defeat to Asian champions North Korea on Sunday, confirming their elimination.

Kenya took the lead 15 minutes in, with Valerie Nekesa scoring the country’s first-ever World Cup goal. Lorna Faith added a second in the 36th minute, giving Kenya a solid advantage. Although Mexico’s Alexa Soto scored during stoppage time, Kenya held on for the win.

Lorna Faith Wasike was named the Most Valuable Player (MVP) of the match. In the other Group C game, North Korea defeated England 4-0, finishing at the top of the group with 10 goals scored and only one conceded.
