UNHCR seeks Sh81.37 billion to help Sudan's refugees displaced by war and host communities
Since the war began, over nine million people have been displaced within Sudan, including 266,000 refugees forced to flee multiple times.
The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) and 33 international and national partners have launched the 2025 Sudan Country Refugee Response Plan (CRRP), appealing for $633.7 million (Sh81.37 billion) to assist nearly 892,000 refugees and asylum seekers, along with over 165,000 host community members in Sudan.
Sudan has been grappling with a worsening humanitarian crisis since conflict erupted in April 2023, displacing millions.

The CRRP aims to provide coordinated support in critical areas such as protection, education, health, nutrition, food security, livelihoods, water, sanitation, hygiene (WASH), energy, environment, and shelter.
"Sudan is facing one of the world's most challenging displacement crises. The needs are enormous, and the time to act is now," said Kristine Hambrouck, UNHCR Representative in Sudan.
"We urge the international community, donors, and humanitarian partners to stand in solidarity with refugees, other forcibly displaced people, and host communities by supporting this plan," she said.
Sustainable solutions
The response plan calls for collective efforts from national and international stakeholders to address the crisis and promote sustainable solutions for displaced persons and their host communities.
Sudan's Commissioner for Refugees Mohammed Yassin acknowledged the country's role in accommodating refugees despite ongoing difficulties.
"Sudan continues to demonstrate remarkable solidarity by hosting refugees despite facing significant challenges. The 2025 CRRP reflects our shared commitment to protecting displaced people while promoting social cohesion and sustainable development," he said.
