Mwinyi passed away on Thursday at the age of 98 after battling lung cancer and was buried on Saturday.

The Prime Minister said the body will be flown to Zanzibar for a national burial, which will be led by President Samia Suluhu Hassan on Saturday.

Mwinyi served as the second President of Tanzania between 1985 and 1995.
