The incident happened after the two toured Kisumu, one of the worst affected counties alongside Nairobi, Tana River and Garissa to assess the flood situation and give relief to victims.
Mwaura affirmed that the state, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education, is working closely with university officials to ensure that all necessary support is extended to the affected students.
The funds will be used to purchase 4,800, 50-kg bags of rice; 12,000 bags of beans, vegetable oil, and 28 boxes of sardine, foodstuff that will ensure access to nutritious meals.
The funds will cushion Northern counties against the risks of drought, and facilitate livestock trade as well as the stablishment of slaughterhouses for meat production and processing.
As of Friday, the tragedy had left at least three dead and nearly 300 wounded, and the expectation was that the numbers would rise.
