"The volume of the water and the depth of the flow are still high, making it impossible for vehicles to pass," said CS Murkomen.
Charles Kyalo, a bus driver on this route, confirmed that the road would be ready for use within a few days.
Residents in the affected areas have now been urged to conserve water and utilise it wisely until normalcy resumes.
This raises the total number of bodies recovered, since the accident in Mororo two days ago, to seven.
Official says the bodies of four out of six people registered as missing have been found, while 13 are unaccounted for.
The Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) officially closed the road, deeming it unsafe for motorists and pedestrians due to flooding.
