Barely six months into his term as deputy president, Gachagua declared himself the guardian of the State House.

The MP said it was suspicious that Gachagua's sons were directors of the Vipingo Beach Resort, which is allegedly owned by the late Nderitu Gachagua.

Given the voting patterns observed in the National Assembly, a similar trend is likely to manifest in the Senate.

Should Gachagua be impeached, Article 149 of the Constitution of Kenya 2010 mandates that the President nominate a replacement within 14 days.

Gachagua can still appeal the decision in court if the Senate upholds the National Assembly’s vote.
