The police targeted the vehicle after receiving credible intelligence about its involvement in drug trafficking.

Kilifi County police successfully intercepted a private vehicle carrying a substantial consignment of bhang valued at approximately Sh20 million on Thursday evening.

The operation was carried out along the Mombasa-Nairobi highway at the Mariakani weighbridge.

Police sources stated that the vehicle, a Toyota Noah, was apprehended as part of a strategic crackdown on major drug trafficking networks.

According to the detectives, the vehicle had been equipped with a fake registration number plate and was displaying a Kenya Air Force pass, adding an extra layer of deception.

It was also transporting the illegal consignment from the Isebania border point in Migori, making its way across several counties before reaching its destination.

The interception was part of a well-coordinated strategy to tackle major drug trafficking networks in the region.

"Today's operation is a testament to our commitment to dismantling the drug distribution networks that plague our communities. The use of fake credentials and registration plates indicates the lengths to which these traffickers will go to evade justice," said a police source who spoke to the Eastleigh Voice on condition of anonymity.

The police targeted the vehicle after receiving credible intelligence about its involvement in drug trafficking.

Two suspects were arrested during the operation and booked at the Moi International Airport Police Station.

According to their statements, the consignment belonged to a notorious drug dealer in Migori and was scheduled for delivery that same night to a well-known distributor in Malindi.

"We were able to track and intercept the vehicle based on intelligence that suggested a large shipment of drugs was en route to Malindi," said one of the lead investigators.

The suspects are set to be processed for arraignment in court, where they will face charges related to drug trafficking as investigations into the case continue.
