Senator Gloria Orwoba loses court bid to stop expulsion from UDA

In a ruling on Tuesday, Justice Lawrence Mugambi said the applicant had introduced new parties into the petition without seeking the court’s permission to amend the original filing, rendering the application incompetent.
The High Court has dismissed nominated Senator Gloria Orwoba’s petition aimed at stopping her expulsion from the United Democratic Alliance (UDA), citing procedural errors in her application.
In a ruling on Tuesday, Justice Lawrence Mugambi said the applicant had introduced new parties into the petition without seeking the court’s permission to amend the original filing, rendering the application incompetent.

“It is apparent that the applicant has added new parties who are not in the original Petition and without seeking the leave of this Court to amend the Petition. The Application is incompetent and is rejected. Previous directions are maintained,” Justice Mugambi ruled.
He further issued a penal notice warning that “any disobedience or non-observance of the order of the court served herewith will result in penal consequences to you and any other person(s) disobeying and not observing the same.”
The ruling comes after President William Ruto-led UDA party expelled Senator Orwoba for gross misconduct and violating the party’s constitution and code of conduct.
UDA Secretary General Hassan Omar said in a press statement that the party’s National Executive Committee (NEC) unanimously approved the expulsion following recommendations from the Disciplinary Committee.
Orwoba was found guilty of several counts of misconduct, including making public statements damaging to the party’s image and repeatedly failing to respond to disciplinary charges.
“After a comprehensive review of the Disciplinary Committee’s report and in line with Article 29 of the UDA Constitution, the NEC found Senator Orwoba’s actions incompatible with the values and objectives of the party,” Hassan said.
The party highlighted that Senator Orwoba refused to respond to multiple invitations from the Disciplinary Committee, opting instead to communicate solely through her legal representatives.
UDA formally notified the Registrar of Political Parties and the Speaker of the Senate to initiate the process of removing Orwoba from her position as a nominated senator on the party’s ticket.
