According to the charge sheet seen by the Nation, Nyambura, along with accomplices still at large, is accused of stealing a bag containing an HP laptop, a laptop charger, eyeglasses and a German passport, among other items, on March 30, 2025, at the airport’s car park in Wakiso District.
The theft occurred while the victim, a foreigner who had just arrived in the country, was being assisted by a driver to load luggage into a car.
Vianney Luggya, the Uganda Civil Aviation Authority (UCAA) public affairs manager, explained that the incident involved a coordinated theft operation by two Kenyan nationals and a Ugandan.
“The lady distracted the driver by asking him uncoordinated questions, while the other two accomplices took the bag, which contained various valuable items. The matter was immediately reported to the Aviation Police, who swiftly conducted investigations, including reviewing CCTV footage. This led to the identification and subsequent arrest of the Kenyan lady, who was taken to court for prosecution,” Luggya said.
Nyambura was charged with theft and will remain in custody until her next court hearing on April 16, 2025.
Luggya has urged users of the airport facilities to remain vigilant.
“We have a system in place with security on the ground to address such incidents. Whenever cases like these are reported, we conduct the necessary investigations and apprehend the culprits,” he added.
He further called on passengers who fall victim to such tricksters to report the incidents immediately to aid in the recovery of lost items and the arrest of offenders.
