The programme targets 8,400 individuals across 10 locations in Wajir Town.

Over 200 persons living with disabilities received food and non-food items through a partnership programme by the Wajir County Government and the Kenya Red Cross.

The drive is part of a post-El Nino programme aimed at addressing the immediate needs of vulnerable communities.

The programme targets 8,400 individuals across 10 locations in Wajir Town.

The areas include Jogoo, Barwago, Got Ade, Waberi, Maalim Salat, Halane, Township, Ali Maow, Furaha, and Hodan.

Speaking during the exercise, conducted on Wednesday, the County Director of Special Programmes Abdikadir Hussein expressed the need to aid the families affected by the recent floods that left a trail of deaths and destruction in Wajir.

"The commitment to reaching residents in these 10 locations underscores our department's dedication to addressing the pressing needs of the community," said Abdikadir.

The county uses a community-based targeting approach, where community members play a pivotal role in identifying the most vulnerable families to receive aid.

To facilitate this process, the Department of Special Programmes has enlisted the support of its officers, along with the collaboration of community leaders, including elders and clerics.

This collaborative effort ensures accountability and equitable distribution of resources among the vulnerable groups in the community.

Wajir residents have been heavily reliant on relief food donated by the county government and other stakeholders to ensure food security for those affected by the floods.

Nationwide, the El Nino rains claimed 174 lives and left hundreds of thousands displaced with Wajir being one of the worst-hit counties.
