World Rugby has unveiled the first five key destinations for the 2025 HSBC SVNS series, marking the return of Kenya’s Shujaa to the core teams.
World Rugby has officially confirmed five key destinations for the upcoming series, which will see the return of Shujaa, the Kenyan Rugby sevens team. The 2025 Hong Kong and Shanghai Banking Corporation (HSBC) SVNS series will start in November this year.
Shujaa reclaimed their core side spot during the 2024 Challenger Series final in Madrid when they beat Germany 33-15 on 2nd June 2024.
Following rugby sevens’ celebrated ‘coming of age’ on the Olympic stage in Paris, World Rugby has confirmed the first five destinations and dates for the highly anticipated HSBC SVNS 2025, with additional events to be announced in the coming weeks.
The Series kicks off with the Emirates Dubai Sevens from 30th November to 1st December 2024 at The Sevens Stadium. The teams will then move on to the DHL Stadium in Cape Town for the second round on 7th-8th December 2024.
The series defenders are Argentina. Other core teams include Ireland, New Zealand, Australia, France, Fiji, South Africa, Great Britain, the USA, and Spain. Kenya Sevens are set to return to the core alongside Uruguay.
“Advanced discussions are ongoing with other host destinations, and details of further SVNS 2025 events, including the Grand Final, will be confirmed in due course,” said World Rugby.
The five confirmed tournaments are:
- Dubai Sevens – 30th November - 1st December
- Cape Town Sevens – 7th-8th December
