Wajir County restructures Executive team to boost service delivery

The reorganisation is designed to bolster efficiency and ensure the effective delivery of services to the residents of Wajir County.

The County Government of Wajir has restructured and redeployed several executive officers in efforts aimed at enhancing service delivery across various departments.

The changes, effective immediately, were detailed in an official letter, seen by The Eastleigh Voice, issued by the County Secretary and Head of County Public Service Hillow Issack Mumin on Saturday.

Mohamud Abdirahman Abdi has been returned to his earlier docket, as the County Executive Committee Member (CECM) for Water Services.

Farah Abdi Saman has been deployed as the CECM for Agriculture, Livestock, and Veterinary Services.

"These appointments are expected to bring fresh perspectives and renewed energy to their respective sectors," said the County Secretary.

The two County Executive Members changed positions after their reassignment following departmental transfers by Governor Ahmed Abdullahi on May 21.

In addition to the changes in the executive committee, several new County Chief Officers (CCOs) have been appointed. Chief Officers in a county government are crucial for the implementation of county policies and management of departmental operations.

They ensure efficient service delivery, manage financial and human resources, and oversee compliance with legal and regulatory requirements.

CCOs monitor and evaluate departmental performance, as well as provide regular reports and expert advice to the County Executive Committee. The Officers also engage with stakeholders, contribute to strategic planning, and introduce innovative practices to enhance departmental efficiency and effectiveness.

Abdiker Ali Mohamed will now serve as the Chief Officer for Public Works and Housing.

Habiba Hussein Abdi has been named the Chief Officer for Education and Early Childhood Development, a critical local government role tasked with advancing the county's educational initiatives.

Omar Adan Ahmed has been designated as the Chief Officer for Livestock Development, Veterinary Services, Rangeland Management, and Fisheries, as the county aims to increase projects focused on bolstering its agricultural and livestock sectors.

Farah Ahmed Osman, who is currently the Chief Officer for Accounting Services, Pending Bills Resolution, Revenue, and Resource Mobilisation, has been assigned additional responsibilities. He will act as the Chief Officer for Water Infrastructure Development.

The restructuring comes in accordance with sections 39(1) and 45(5) of the County Governments Act, No. 17 of 2012. Key changes have been announced in the leadership of several crucial departments.

The reorganisation is designed to bolster efficiency and ensure the effective delivery of services to the residents of Wajir County.

"All affected officers have been instructed to complete the handing/taking over exercise by Monday, June 10, 2024," read part of the letter.

Wajir County Secretary said the local government remains dedicated to its mission of enhancing public service delivery and addressing the pressing needs of its citizens.

Hillow said, "This latest move is a testament to its ongoing efforts to bring about positive change and development within the county."
