The incident has sparked outrage and concern, with many calling for swift government action.
Adan Issack, a resident, recounted the alarming details of the abduction, explaining that the MCA was being trailed by two vehicles before being forced off the road.
"Unknown people eventually intercepted him, and since then, there has been no word on his whereabouts. We are deeply concerned and want to know where our brother is," Issack said.
Adan expressed frustration with the lack of progress in the investigation, pointing to the government's previous commitments to address forced disappearances, an issue that has plagued the country for years.
"When the President took office, he promised an end to forced disappearances. But here we are again. This abduction is a serious violation, not just against Yusuf but also against the 10,000 residents of Della Ward who are now without their elected representative."
He further stressed that if the MCA had committed any offence, the proper legal channels should be followed.
"Kenya is governed by the rule of law. If someone is suspected of wrongdoing, they should be arrested, charged, and brought before the court within 24 hours. This is now the fourth day, and we don’t know if Yusuf is alive or dead. The government needs to act."
Adan’s concerns were echoed by other Mombasa residents. Abdullahi Ali, another member of the community, called on the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) to take immediate action to locate the missing MCA.
"It is shocking and unacceptable that an elected official, someone chosen by the people, can be abducted in the middle of Nairobi by armed individuals. We urge the government to leave no stone unturned in finding Yusuf. His family and his constituents deserve to know what happened to him."
Abdullahi added that the incident has left the community in a state of fear and uncertainty. "If a sitting MCA can disappear without a trace, what does that mean for the safety of ordinary citizens? The authorities must demonstrate that no one is above the law and that such heinous acts will not go unpunished."
Rukia Omar, another resident, also voiced her outrage and called on the government to use all available resources to ensure the safe return of the MCA.
"This situation is unacceptable. The police, DCI, and all relevant government bodies need to work around the clock to find Yusuf. His family and his people in Della Ward are living in agony, not knowing if he is alive or dead. This is a human rights issue, and the government must act swiftly and decisively."
Rukia stressed that the abduction has raised broader concerns about the state of security in the country.
"We have seen too many cases like this. People disappear, and no one knows where they’ve gone. It is high time the government put an end to these forced disappearances. Yusuf’s case is not just a political matter, it is a matter of justice and human dignity."
Meanwhile, Yusuf’s family continues to plead for answers, urging the authorities to expedite their investigations and provide information about his whereabouts.
