Joho emerges as richest CS nominee so far after declaring Sh2.3bn net worth

Joho explained that his money was primarily derived from developing and undeveloped properties.

Hassan Joho, Cabinet Secretary nominee for Mining, is by far the wealthiest of the 16 nominees who have been vetted.

Joho told the National Assembly Committee on Appointments that he has a net worth of Sh2.3 billion.

Joho explained that his money was primarily derived from developing and undeveloped properties.

The former Mombasa Governor further maintained that the riches belong to him rather than his entire family."I own both developed and undeveloped property, including properties in Mombasa, Vipingo, Malindi, and Nairobi. Joho revealed that he has shares in several properties, family enterprises, collectables, and cash in the bank.

Compared to Joho, Eric Muuga, the Water CS contender, has the lowest net worth, with Sh31 million in the form of land.

However, in President William Ruto's cabinet, he ranks second to Prime Cabinet Secretary and CS for Foreign Affairs Musalia Mudavadi.

During his vetting on October 17, 2022, Mudavadi revealed his net worth of Sh4 billion.

"If I take my investment in shares in some companies and also properties that I own I would put my net worth at about Sh4 billion," Mudavadi said then.

The Prime CS added that his current and anticipated income is from rental income, dividends from shareholding, interests, and other expenses that come from the farm.

However, because he is not subject to vetting, it is impossible to determine his net wealth 21 months after taking office.

Joho while facing the vetting panel, cleared the air that his family doesn't do business with any government entity.

The nominee revealed that his family is into logistics but not with the government.

"My family does not do business with any government entity. We are in logistics in Tanzania, Uganda, South Sudan and Kenya," Joho noted.

The nominee stated that he has always conducted clean business and that the family has expanded into real estate.

"My family does not do jewellery business. We are in logistics and we diversified to real estate," Joho added.
