Kenya's free fall continues in latest FIFA rankings

By |

Harambee Stars is now ranked 111th globally

Kenya's Harambee Stars have experienced a slight setback in the latest FIFA rankings, dropping from 110th to 111th position with 1181.92 points.

The absence of Kenya's participation in the recently concluded 2023 Africa Cup of Nations might have contributed to this decline, as FIFA typically factors in matches played in major tournaments such as the AFCON and the AFC Asian Cup, which recently concluded.

The rise of Mozambique to 110th place can be attributed to their commendable performance at AFCON, where they secured draws against strong teams like Egypt and Ghana. However, the most remarkable mover in the rankings is Angola, climbing an impressive 24 places to 93rd position after their remarkable journey to the quarter-finals in Ivory Coast.

Nigeria, the runners-up in the AFCON final, made significant progress, gaining 14 places to reach 28th position, while Ivory Coast, the eventual champions, broke into the top 40, securing 39th place after a ten-place jump. Despite being eliminated in the Round of 16, Morocco maintains its status as the top-ranked team in Africa, climbing one spot to 12th, while Senegal surprisingly gained three places to become the second-ranked team on the continent at 17th position.

In the CECAFA region, Uganda remains the highest-ranked team, holding 92nd place with 1246.88 points. Tanzania's Taifa Stars, despite not securing any victories at the Cup of Nations, moved up two places to 119th position with 1160.98 points.

Globally, Argentina remains at the helm, followed by France, England, Belgium and Brazil in second, third, fourth and fifth respectively.
