Mombasa Woman rep adds to the calls for appointment of more Kadhis to address case backlog

Mombasa's Woman Representative, Zamzam Mohammed has urged the Judiciary to urgently tackle the shortage of Kadhis in the region.

Stressing the critical need for more judicial officers, she highlighted the backlog of cases, particularly those involving marital disputes and inheritance matters, that have remained unresolved.

Zamzam emphasised the necessity for the Judiciary to act promptly by appointing Kadhis from the pool of individuals recently interviewed by the Judicial Service Commission (JSC).

She underscored the significance of swiftly filling these positions to ensure that pending cases receive the necessary attention and that the local community gains access to fair and timely judicial resolutions.

During the 50th anniversary celebration of Supkem in Mombasa last month, Muslim leaders also addressed this pressing issue, urging action from the Judicial Service Commission to fill the void in Kadhi positions.

They questioned why roles such as magistrates had been filled while crucial positions within the Islamic legal system remained vacant.

Amid the celebration of Supkem's milestone, these leaders voiced their concerns, highlighting the importance of establishing a complete and inclusive judiciary that reflects the diverse religious landscape of the country.

Their sentiments echo the desires of a community seeking representation and fairness within the judicial system.

The leaders extended their call to action by advocating for increased recruitment of Muslim Marriage Officers.

They acknowledged the pivotal role these officers play in upholding Islamic matrimonial practices, emphasizing their significance within the community
