Kilifi county, medical professionals team up in new strategy to tackle drug abuse, mental health challenges

Governor Mung’aro expressed commitment to equipping Kilifi with a well-equipped centre and enhancing the social reintegration of individuals overcoming addiction.

A team of medical professionals and consultants has proposed an extensive strategy to tackle the prevalent issues of drug abuse and mental health challenges in the coastal region, particularly in Kilifi County.

The collaborative effort spearheaded by Dr Josephine Wanjaria and Lindsey Moy, under the leadership of Kilifi Governor Gideon Mung’aro, aims to establish more rehabilitation centres in Kilifi and support the creation of a Vocational Training Center (VTC).

This VTC will empower recovered individuals with practical skills and proficiencies, facilitating their integration into the workforce.

Additionally, efforts are underway to bolster the existing rehabilitation centres in Malindi, Kilifi, and Mtwapa by ensuring they receive adequate resources and support.

In a call for collective action, Governor Mung’aro urged both public and private sector stakeholders to actively engage in addressing these critical issues.

He emphasised the importance of collective efforts towards the shared objective of eradicating drug abuse in Kilifi, inviting widespread participation in the initiative.
