The aim of the request is to gain insights into the current status and effectiveness of protocols in place to address incidents within the marine environment.

This call for information comes in the wake of a distressing incident where four fishermen went missing on November 30 while operating along the shores of Malindi. Their absence persisted for 24 days until a Chinese fishing vessel discovered them in Tanzanian waters.

Responding to the situation, collaborative efforts were initiated, involving key figures such as the Cabinet Secretary for Interior, Kithure Kindiki, and the Cabinet Secretary for Mining, Blue Economy, and Maritime Affairs, Salim Mvurya, among others.

The Kenya Navy was mobilized to rescue the fishermen, with the primary objective of ensuring their safe return to their families. Tragically, one of the fishermen did not survive the harrowing ordeal.

MP Aisha Mnyazi stressed the urgency of understanding and improving response mechanisms for maritime incidents to prevent such tragedies in the future. The incident highlights the need for a comprehensive evaluation of the existing protocols to enhance the effectiveness of rescue and response efforts in the maritime sector.
