Deputy Governor Ali Maalim, accompanied by Mandera Town MCA Feisal Abdinoor, visited the bereaved family to offer condolences. Dr. Ali Maalim revealed that the El Niño rains have already claimed 15 lives in Mandera County. The toll extends beyond individual tragedies, encompassing both human lives and infrastructure.

In a statement, Dr. Ali underlined the urgent need for intervention from county, national, and humanitarian agencies to address the dire situation. Concerned about public safety, he instructed the County's technical team in the roads department to establish safe passages, particularly in areas where streams pose a threat during floods.



Acknowledging the widespread impact of the El Niño floods, the County government, through the Department of Special Programs and Disaster Management, took immediate action. They initiated the distribution of food and non-food items to 2000 families in Mandera East affected by the ongoing rains. This humanitarian effort aims to provide essential support to those grappling with the consequences of the heavy rains.
Department officials affirmed that the distribution exercise will continue in various sub-counties affected by the relentless downpours, underlining the commitment to assisting communities facing challenges brought about by the El Niño weather patterns.
