The ongoing El Nino rains have forced several buses operating on the Nairobi-Mandera route to temporarily suspend their transport services. A recent spot check by The Voice of Eastleigh revealed closed offices in both Eastleigh and Mandera Town as the situation continues to worsen.

Abdirizack Ibrahim, the manager of Legend Bus Services, which operates on the Eastleigh-Garissa-Wajir-Mandera route, highlighted the severe impact of the heavy rains on the road infrastructure in North Eastern Kenya. He stated, "Almost six bus companies operating these routes were affected as the devastating floods continue to worsen."
Ibrahim emphasised the challenges faced by bus conductors and drivers, many of whom were left jobless as the buses halted their operations. Additionally, hundreds of travelers from Mandera and Nairobi, unable to afford air tickets, were forced to suspend their journeys home.
In his appeal to the government, Ibrahim urged intervention to repair critical road sections, specifically mentioning the Nuno-Madogashe road, the Skansa area between Madogashe and Wajir, and the Kutulo area on the Wajir-Mandera road.
He stressed the urgency of addressing these road repairs to resume normal transportation services and mitigate the impact on both the public and the transport industry. The situation reflects the broader challenges faced by the region's infrastructure during the ongoing adverse weather conditions.
