DPP orders arrest of Isiolo Governor Abdi Guyo and seven others over alleged kidnapping, robbery with violence

The case arises from an incident in which former Isiolo County Chief Officer of Health, Abdirahaman Mohamed, and 15 MCAs supporting the Governor Guyo’s impeachment were allegedly abducted, threatened, beaten, and robbed.

The Office of the Directorate of Public Prosecution (ODPP) has ordered the arrest of Isiolo Governor Abdi Guyo and seven others to face charges of kidnapping with intent to cause grievous harm and robbery with violence.

According to the ODPP, the case arises from an incident in which former Isiolo County Chief Officer of Health, Abdirahaman Mohamed, and 15 Members of County Assembly (MCAs) supporting the Governor Guyo’s impeachment were allegedly abducted, threatened, beaten, and robbed by the Governor and his associates at Outbark Hotel in Maanzoni, Machakos County.

In a statement, ODPP said that on the day of the incident,  the Governor and his supporters allegedly disarmed and attacked Abdirahaman.

"He was bundled into a vehicle, threatened, and moved to the Ruai Sewage area, where he was blindfolded, beaten, and abandoned. During the ordeal, he lost a licensed Glock pistol with 15 rounds, an iPhone 16, Sh70,000 in cash, and other personal belongings," the statement reads in part.

The case was first received on June 19, 2025, by ODPP Machakos County as an inquiry file from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) concerning Governor Guyo and seven others.

"Owing to the matter's significant Public Interest, the file was referred to ODPP Headquarters in Nairobi for independent and impartial review," the statement added.

“Following a comprehensive review of the file, the ODPP established that Guyo and his supporters forcibly abducted and attacked Abdirahaman, moved him to a separate location where he was blindfolded, beaten, and abandoned, during which he lost personal belongings.”

CCTV footage from Outbark Hotel reportedly placed Governor Guyo alongside Abdullahi Jaldesa Banticah, Dade Boru, Abdirashid Ali Diba (alias Ngila), Abdinur Dima Jiilo, Ahmed Duale, Josephat Mwangi Komu, and Yusuf Maina at the scene.

Based on the evidence, the ODPP confirmed that DPP Renson Ingonga has directed the DCI to apprehend and arraign all eight suspects on charges of kidnapping with intent to cause grievous harm and robbery with violence.
