South Sudan President Salva Kiir, in his capacity as the Chairperson of the East African Community (EAC), has issued a notice for an extraordinary summit to consider the nomination of Caroline Mwende Mueke, a Kenyan national, as the new EAC Secretary General, the Eastleigh Voice has learned.
The summit, according to a note verbale, sent on Thursday to the partner states, is set to take place virtually on April 15, and aims to deliberate on the appointment of the new EAC chief.

This decision follows the receipt of a letter from Nairobi dated March 18, announcing the recall of Peter Mathuki as the Secretary General of the EAC.
Mathuki, who has been accused of graft, was nominated by President Ruto on March 8, for the position of ambassador to Moscow, Russia.
His recall has been prompted by severe allegations of misappropriation of regional bloc funds by regional parliamentarians who serve at the East African Legislative Assembly (EALA).
He has also been accused of poor management and favoritism in his line of work.
Mathuki’s fate was sealed on March 5, during the Third Sitting of the Third Session of the Fifth EALA held in Nairobi.
EALA parliamentarians directly urged President William Ruto, who was present for the opening, to dismiss Mathuki as the EAC boss.
This marks the first instance of a head of state recalling a sitting secretary-general who hasn’t completed their term, with Mathuki being the inaugural casualty. He has remained mum about the allegations.
