County Executive Committee Member for Lands, Mohammed Hussein, described the award as a sign of progress in addressing land issues that have long affected the coastal region.
“We are honoured to be recognised. This is not just a win for the department but also for the people of Mombasa. My commitment is to ensure that land matters are handled fairly and that residents’ concerns are given priority,” he said.
Governor Abdulswammad Nassir also commended the team behind the achievement, calling it a testament to the dedication of county staff.
“When our work is noticed on a national stage, it shows that the efforts of our people are bearing fruit. I will continue to back my team to ensure Mombasa grows stronger in every sector,” the Governor Abdulswammad remarked.
The announcement sparked excitement among show attendees. Mariam Suleiman, a resident of Kisauni, said the win gave her hope that local leaders were taking development seriously.
“It feels good to see Mombasa recognised for something positive. Many of us have struggled with land disputes for years, so if this award means better services, then we fully support it,” she noted.
Another resident, Patrick Omondi, who attended the exhibition with his family, said the county’s success should translate into practical benefits.
“We are proud of the award, but what matters most is how ordinary people like us will benefit. Affordable housing and proper land allocation are things we really want to see,” he added.
The Agricultural Show, which will run until September 7, is expected to draw thousands of visitors, including investors and policymakers.
Beyond the colourful displays and exhibitions, many locals are optimistic that the recognition will inspire more concrete steps to resolve land challenges and promote real estate development in the region.
For Mombasa, the award is more than just a trophy; officials noted it is a symbol of the county’s ambition to lead in property management and to restore public trust in local governance.
