Senior Al-Shabaab leaders among 12 terrorists killed in joint Somalia operation

During the operation, combat vehicles, large quantities of weapons and other important equipment for the enemy were also destroyed.

Twelve Al-Shabaab terrorists, including senior figures of the group, were eliminated in a planned operation conducted by the Somali National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) in conjunction with International Security Partners in the Adan-Yabal district of HirShabelle State.

Confirming the same in a statement, the Somali Ministry of Information, Culture and Tourism said those killed included senior Al-Shabaab leaders whose names it said will be shared publicly once confirmed.

"Up to 12 members of the Al-Shabaab Khawarij, including leaders, were killed in a specially planned operation carried out jointly by the National Intelligence and Security Agency (NISA) and international partners that targeted a house in the Aden Yabaal district, which was a strategic center for the Khawarij to collect military equipment and organize their militias," the Ministry said.

The state added that during the operation, combat vehicles, large quantities of weapons and other important equipment for the enemy were also destroyed.

"The operation went as planned. The targets of this operation included leaders who were being closely monitored and who had caused great harm to the Somali people, and their names will be announced when confirmed," the Ministry said.

"The Somali government, in collaboration with its people and international partners, is committed to eradicating the Khawarij enemy, with no escape for its leaders."

Last night, NISA shared footage of the attack on its socials, adding that a house the militia were using to store their weapons was destroyed in the operation.

Earlier this week, the US Africa Command confirmed that another operation targeting Al-Shabaab militia took place in the Bullo Xajji area, but did not confirm the number of militia killed in the airstrike.

"In coordination with the Federal Government of Somalia, US Africa Command (AFRICOM) conducted an airstrike against Al-Shabaab on June 16, 2025.

The airstrike occurred in the vicinity of Bullo Xajji, Somalia. AFRICOM, alongside the Federal Government of Somalia and Somali Armed Forces, continues to take action to degrade Al-Shabaab's ability to plan and conduct attacks that threaten the US homeland, our forces, and our citizens abroad," the Command said in a statement.
