Man pleads guilty to SIM swap fraud targeting ex-OCS Talaam in Albert Ojwang murder case

A man who allegedly fraudulently extorted money from members of the public through SIM swap using former OCS Samson Talaam's number has pleaded guilty to the offence.

He was charged alongside two others who denied the charges before Milimani principal magistrate Dolphina Alego on Tuesday.
The other two are Amos Nzomo and James Mutemi.
They are charged that on diverse dates between June 16 and 19, 2025, they replaced the SIM card of a number belonging to Samson Talam and unlawfully solicited money for their gain.
Mutemi was also charged with unlawfully using an identity card belonging to another person, contrary to Section 14(F) of the Registration of Persons Act.
In another charge, Nzomo has been charged with permitting another person to have an identity card issued to him against the law.
He is accused of allowing one Nzisa to use an ID card belonging to another person.
Musyimi was charged in the last count with obtaining registration by false pretences against the law.
The court was informed that on June 16, 2025, they willfully procured for the other person registration of a SIM card replacement belonging to Samson Talam by false pretenses.
Talaam is being represented by lawyer Danstan Omari in other cases.
The suspects were granted a cash bail of Sh200,000 each.
The matter will be mentioned on Wednesday.
