Chepchirchir targets Rabat after Doha Diamond League win

Nelly Chepchirchir will line up in the 800 metres at the Rabat Diamond League after securing a win in the 1,500 metres in Doha, where she ran a season-best 4:05.00.
Nelly Chepchirchir will compete in the 800 metres at the Rabat Diamond League on Sunday, 25 May, following her victory in the 1,500 metres at the Doha leg of the series.
Chepchirchir clocked a season-best 4:05.00 to win the race, improving from her third-place finish in Doha last year.
“I am very proud for taking this position, because last year I was position 3 and I was not expecting this,” she said in a post-race interview shared on Citius Mag. “I appreciate the crowd so much, especially the Kenyans. I support you for cheering us.”
The 21-year-old said her decision to take an early lead was instinctive. “When I entered the track, I felt some strength and I saw that I could make it to position 1. That’s why I used it, and that’s why I got position 1 today.”

Despite high temperatures in Doha, Chepchirchir said the weather suited her. “I like this weather for today. I don’t like the cold so much.”
Chepchirchir is expected to focus on both the 1,500 and 800 metres this season. “I am participating mostly in the 1,500 and 800. So after here, I am going to Rabat for 800,” she said.
The Rabat meeting, officially known as the Meeting International Mohammed VI d'Athlétisme de Rabat, is the fourth stop of the 2025 Diamond League series. It will be held at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat, Morocco.
