Mondo Duplantis, Valarie Allman lead 2025 Field Athlete of the Year shortlist

Mondo Duplantis, Valarie Allman, and a host of world champions from around the globe are in the running for the 2025 Field Athlete of the Year, with fans now voting on World Athletics’ social media platforms to help determine the finalists.
World Athletics has unveiled the nominees for the 2025 Men's and Women's Field Athlete of the Year awards, spotlighting athletes whose dominance defined this year's track and field season.

Five athletes have been shortlisted in both the men's and women's field categories, with voting now underway to determine the two finalists from each list. The winners will be announced at the World Athletics Awards on November 30.
Among the men's nominees, Sweden's Mondo Duplantis leads the pack after an unbeaten season, claiming both indoor and outdoor world pole vault titles, setting four world records, and securing the Diamond League crown.
Italy's Mattia Furlani also earned a place following an outstanding campaign in which he won both indoor and outdoor world long jump titles and recorded two of the top three performances of 2025.
Canada's Ethan Katzberg joins the shortlist as the world hammer champion and season leader, having moved to fifth on the all-time list with a new area record.
New Zealand's Hamish Kerr, the world high jump champion and indoor silver medallist, made the cut after a season-topping leap that broke the Oceania record. Portugal's Pedro Pichardo completes the men's lineup as the world triple jump champion and 2025 world leader.
On the women's side, the United States leads the nominations with three athletes. Valarie Allman tops the list after an unbeaten year in the discus, winning both world and Diamond League titles while producing nine of the season’s top 11 performances.
Her compatriot Tara Davis-Woodhall dominated the long jump, remaining undefeated throughout the year and posting the top three performances globally. Anna Hall also made the shortlist after capturing the world heptathlon title, moving to joint second on the all-time list and recording the three best performances of 2025.
Australia's Nicola Olyslagers, who achieved an unprecedented high jump double by winning both indoor and outdoor world titles as well as the Diamond League championship, was also named among the finalists.
Canada's Camryn Rogers rounds out the women’s nominees, having dominated the hammer throw as world champion and world leader, moving to second on the all-time list with a new area record.
"The vote to determine the Field Athlete of the Year finalists is now open on World Athletics social media platforms – on Facebook, Instagram and X. Voting closes on 26 October and the winners will be announced at the World Athletics Awards on 30 November," said World Athletics in a statement.
