“I am deeply honored and humbled to accept the role of UNESCO goodwill ambassador for sport, integrity, and values,” he said. “This moment is not just a personal achievement, but a reflection of the power of sports to inspire, unite, and transform lives.”
Kipchoge emphasized that sports are more than just competition; they promote teamwork, self-discipline, and integrity. He noted that these values have shaped his career as an athlete and continue to motivate him.
“I look forward to working together to make a lasting difference and to remind the world that truly, no human is limited,” he added.
Hubert Gijzen, UNESCO East Africa Regional Director, explained that Kipchoge was chosen for his strong values of discipline and integrity. He is also recognized for his commitment to environmental conservation and advocating for children’s education.
“We share similar priorities with Kipchoge, making it a perfect partnership,” Gijzen stated. “His belief that sports can help individuals lead better lives attracted us to him. We aim to empower young people through sports, education, and caring for the planet.”
This is Kipchoge's second ambassadorship with UNESCO, having first accepted a similar position in October 2023.
