Former Mombasa Governor Joho vows to unite Coastal leaders as CS

In response to Joho's nomination, leaders from the Coast have expressed their willingness to collaborate across party lines to support the government's agenda.

Former Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho has pledged to use his position as Cabinet Secretary, if approved by Parliament, to foster unity among coastal leaders. During his vetting session on Sunday, Joho addressed concerns about his involvement in local politics if he assumes the CS role.

"I now serve the nation, and I will make efforts to unite those in Mombasa and beyond," Joho stated. He emphasised the need to transcend local political divisions, asserting, "Every Kenyan must be served equally. My focus will be on uniting Kenyans and leaders across the board."

Joho's commitment comes amid criticism from Nyali MP Mohammed Ali, who urged Joho to serve the entire nation rather than focusing solely on Mombasa. Speaking at the official opening of a tuition block at Pwani School for the Mentally Challenged, Mohammed remarked, "The flag is for all Kenyans, not just Mombasa. He should stop the circus."

He also reassured UDA supporters that Joho's potential appointment would not undermine the party's standing in the county.

In response to Joho's nomination, leaders from the Coast have expressed their willingness to collaborate across party lines to support the government's agenda. Kwale Senator Issa Juma Boy, Kwale Woman Rep Fatuma Masito, and several other MPs applauded President William Ruto for including Joho in the Cabinet, highlighting the move as a step towards a more inclusive government.

Senator Twalib praised both President Ruto and Azimio leader Raila Odinga for prioritising national interests, while nominated Senator Hamida Kibwana lauded the nomination as a demonstration of the president's commitment to addressing the concerns of all Kenyans.
