Nyayo and Ulinzi set to stage Women’s Champions League qualifiers in September
Kenya earned the hosting rights after a successful bid by the Football Kenya Federation (FKF), bringing the regional competition back to the country four years after it staged the inaugural edition in 2021.
Nairobi’s Nyayo National Stadium and Ulinzi Sports Complex have been confirmed as the venues for the 2025 CAF Women’s Champions League CECAFA Zone Qualifiers, scheduled to run from September 4 to 16.

According to CECAFA Competitions Director Yusuf Mossi, returning the tournament to Nairobi reflects the city’s footballing infrastructure and the country’s growing role in promoting women’s football.
“We are happy that the tournament will be returning to Kenya after the inaugural one was hosted there in 2021,” said Mossi.
Eight clubs from across East and Central Africa will contest this year’s qualifiers: Kenya Police Bullets (Kenya), Top Girls Academy (Burundi), Yei Joint Stars (South Sudan), JKT Queens (Tanzania), Commercial Bank of Ethiopia (Ethiopia), Kampala Queens (Uganda), Rayon Sports Women (Rwanda), and JKU Princesses (Zanzibar).
Commercial Bank of Ethiopia and Yei Joint Stars head into the tournament with pedigree, having featured in every edition since the competition’s inception. However, this year, Sudan, Somalia, Eritrea, and Djibouti will not field teams.
The qualifiers are scheduled to finish before September 18 to ensure players’ availability for the upcoming FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup qualifiers.
The eventual winner will represent the CECAFA region at the 2025 CAF Women’s Champions League finals, with Nyayo and Ulinzi once again set to play a central role in shaping the continental stage for women’s club football.
