Kamukunji among Nairobi areas to experience moderate rainfall - weatherman

Residents of Kamukunji and other parts of Nairobi should brace for varying levels of rainfall between Monday, March 9, and Tuesday, March 10, according to a new advisory from the Kenya Meteorological Department.
The forecast indicates that estates in Kamukunji, including Eastleigh, Pumwani, parts of Gikomba, and Muthurwa, will receive over 35mm of rainfall.

Embakasi East is expected to record heavier downpours ranging between 80mm and 100mm. Moderate rainfall of 40mm to 60mm is projected in Dagoretti, Roysambu, and Embakasi North.
Areas within Kasarani and Ruaraka will receive lighter showers below 20mm, while Starehe, covering estates like Pangani, Ngara, Ziwani, Shauri Moyo, Kariokor, and the Nairobi CBD, will experience rainfall between 25mm and 30mm. Westlands is also set to receive above-average rainfall, estimated at 50mm-60mm.
Despite the varying rainfall intensities, a significant portion of Nairobi remains vulnerable to flooding and waterlogging. Many roads and drainage systems are expected to be overwhelmed, increasing the risk of traffic congestion and property damage.
In response, the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) has urged motorists to exercise caution.
“Drivers should always remain alert, especially in rainy conditions, as poor visibility can lead to accidents,” NTSA stated.
The agency also warned against attempting to cross flooded roads, emphasizing that underestimating water depth could have fatal consequences.
With the rainy period set to continue, authorities have advised residents to stay informed through weather updates and take necessary precautions to minimise disruptions and risks.
