Illegal water users in Nairobi given until April 30 to regularise their supply

The operation is aimed at eliminating unauthorised water access in Nairobi and its environs to ensure fair distribution and maintain water quality.
Nairobi City Water and Sewerage Company Limited (NCWSC) has launched a crackdown on illegal water connections, warning that offenders have until April 30, 2025, to regularise their supply or face prosecution.
In a notice, the company said the operation is aimed at eliminating unauthorised water access in Nairobi and its environs to ensure fair distribution and maintain water quality.

“It is our mandate to ensure equitable distribution of water to all customers; however, illegal water connections continue to undermine this principle and pose significant risks to both the quality of our water supply and public health,” NCWSC said.
As part of the initiative, the company has urged customers with illegal connections or tampered meters to visit any NCWSC regional office to legalise their supply.
“Applicable penalties will be waived for customers who voluntarily regularise their water connections on or before Wednesday, April 30, 2025,” the company said.
Beyond the deadline, NCWSC warned that it would take legal action against offenders.
“Thereafter, any customer found with an illegal water connection shall be charged and prosecuted, in addition to being compelled to pay any applicable fines and penalties,” NCWSC added.
NCWSC also reminded customers to settle outstanding water bills to avoid service interruptions.
Payments can be made via *260#, MPESA Paybill 444400, and through banks, including NCBA, ABSA, Citi, Cooperative, Equity, Sidian, and Diamond Trust Bank.
