Government Spokesperson Isaac Mwaura on Friday said most of the victims were caught off guard and called on the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) to probe claims of corruption in the issuance of the operating license to the company linked to the tragedy.
"Owners of the company must be held accountable for the incident. The company will cease operating from the site. It's not acceptable that such facilities exist in residential areas," he said.
The fire began at 11:30 pm after a lorry that was loaded with gas exploded at the site, igniting a fire that spread widely burning down a godown which deals with garments and textiles.
Locals have been urged to keep off the go-down to avert further tragedy.
