Apart from Nairobi, the other high-risk counties include Mandera, Wajir, Tana River, Lamu, Kitui, Machakos, Kiambu, Kajiado and Garissa.
The campaign activity will run from Saturday 11 November to 15 November 2023 and will be conducted through the Division of Disease Surveillance And Response in collaboration with the United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund (Unicef) and the World Health Organisation (WHO).
This is the third round of the exercise targeting the 10 high-risk counties following the latest outbreak of polio in the country.
During this time, there will be mobilization and vaccination at health facilities, madrassas, commercial and market centres, bus stops, daycare centres and places of worship by the vaccination teams.
"We kindly request for support in ensuring every child is reached during this round through creating awareness, mobilisation of community members, community entry, safety and use of your premises as vaccination points," the Health Ministry said in a statement to the Kamukunji Sub-County health department dated 2 November 2023.
Dr. David Rotich, representing the WHO Country Representative, reiterated the critical need to vaccinate all children under five in the high-risk counties.
He also stressed the importance of ensuring that children receive all eligible routine vaccines, as missing immunizations can pose significant risks to public health.
