However, the Kahawa train, which normally departs at 9 am from Kahawa West, is still suspended until further notice.

Kenya Railways has announced the resumption of commuter services on the Nairobi-Limuru route after a temporary suspension due to heavy rains that were recently witnessed across the country.

The corporation via a notice disclosed that the services would resume on Monday, May 27, 2024, with the train departing Limuru Station at 5:30 a.m.

"We are pleased to inform the public that the Limuru Commuter train service will resume on Monday, May 27, 2024. In line with the normal schedule, the train will depart Limuru Station at 5:50 AM and arrive at Nairobi Central Station at 7:30 am," reads the notice dated May 24, 2024

In May 2021, the cooperation launched the Nairobi Commuter Rail Service from Limuru to the CBD at the Central Railways station.

On a normal day, the commuter train departs Limuru Railway Station at 5.30 am, passing through Kikuyu at 6.15 am, Dagoretti at 6.48 am and Kibra at 7.16 am before arriving at the Nairobi Central Station at 7.52 am.

In the evening, the train departs the CBD at 5.20 pm, passes through Kibra at 5.54 pm, Dagoretti at 6.22 pm and Kikuyu at 6.55 pm, reaching Limuru at 7.52 pm.

The train only stops for two minutes at each station.

Flooding

The corporation previously announced the suspension of commuter services in many parts of the nation due to the heavy rains that were causing flooding rendering rail transport impossible.

However, as the rain continued to subside, Kenya Railways resumed the services gradually.

On May 6, Kenya Railways informed commuters that train services would resume in some parts of Nairobi.

These included Embakasi Village, Lukenya, The SGR Link train, and Syokimau. However, the company warned that the services might be reviewed anytime due to the changing weather patterns

Last week on May 20, commuter services resumed on the Nairobi-Ruiru route.

However, the Kahawa train, which normally departs at 9 am from Kahawa West, is still suspended until further notice.
