The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) is holding a woman allegedly arrested while helping her friend to find a hitman to kill a man they are involved in a tussle over a parcel of land in Nairobi.

Winfred Wandia Kisau is in custody at the Central police station in Nairobi where the DCI is investigating a case of conspiracy to commit murder contrary to section 224 of the Penal Code.

According to Inspector George Karanja of Nairobi Central DCI offices, Kisau was helping her friend Rosemary Muathe to find a murderer willing to take Sh1 million to execute businessman Anthony Maina Mutahi and an additional Sh20 million as a token of appreciation after killing the businessman.

Muathe had leased her property to Mutahi before the land was allegedly transferred to the latter fraudulently leading to a case that is still pending in court before she started the alleged plot to eliminate him.

Karanja said Kisau introduced the contracted killer to Muathe and Kisau was arrested at the Sagret Hotel along Valley Road in Kilimani, Nairobi, where she was meeting the hitman for final arrangements.

"Rosemary was embroiled in a court battle over a property she had leased and the same was transferred to Mutahi thus the reason she wanted to eliminate him," stated IP Karanja in an affidavit filed in court.

"Several meetings were held within and in the outskirts of Nairobi with intent to harmonise on how the execution of Mutahi would be conducted."

However, the hitman reached out to Mutahi and informed him of the plot to murder him.

The two met inside Central police station where the hitman leaked the details of Mutahi's planned murder to him and the matter was reported and booked vide Occurrence Book (OB) number 134/29/07/2024.

"The (Hitman) continued to engage the respondent (Kisau) and on August 1, 2024, an ambush was laid at the Sagret Hotel along Valley Road where Kisau was arrested and booked at the Central police station," stated IP Karanja.

"During the arrest, Kisau immediately uninstalled her WhatsApp account to conceal the evidence."

Karanja said Kisau's two mobile phones were confiscated and inventory raised, and the same will be subjected to forensics to retrieve the deleted chats.

The detective made the disclosures before Senior Principal Magistrate Bernard Ochoi of Milimani law courts while seeking orders to detain Wandia Kisau for 14 days pending investigations. The orders were granted as sought.
