KAA urges early travel as Nairobi Marathon shuts down key routes

KAA urged passengers to make early travel arrangements and consider alternative routes to avoid missing flights.
Travellers flying through Jomo Kenyatta International Airport (JKIA) and Wilson Airport this weekend have been advised to expect major disruptions due to road closures associated with the Nairobi City Marathon.
In a statement, the Kenya Airports Authority (KAA) announced that key roads connecting to both airports would be closed beginning at 10:00 pm on Saturday, July 5, and remain inaccessible until mid-afternoon on Sunday, July 6.

The authority listed the affected roads as the Nairobi Expressway, Waiyaki Way, Mombasa Road, Uhuru Highway, and Kenyatta Avenue — all of which are major arteries for airport access.
KAA urged passengers to make early travel arrangements and consider alternative routes to avoid missing flights.
“We strongly advise all passengers and airport users to plan their journeys well in advance and allow extra travel time due to the expected heavy traffic and diversions,” the statement read.
According to the authority, alternative access to JKIA is possible via Outer Ring Road through Ruai or Thika Road, depending on one's direction of approach.
For those heading to Wilson Airport, KAA recommended using Lang’ata Road or Mombasa Road via connecting feeder roads.
“We advise passengers heading to Jomo Kenyatta International Airport to consider using Outer Ring Road via Ruai or Thika Road, depending on their direction of approach,” said the Kenya Airports Authority. “Those travelling to Wilson Airport can access it through Lang’ata Road or Mombasa Road using alternative feeder routes.”
