In a heartwarming gesture ahead of Christmas, Nairobi Governor Johnson Sakaja has announced the waiving of medical bills for struggling patients and mortuary fees for families unable to claim their loved ones' bodies. This decision, made during a meeting with healthcare facility leaders, aims to ease financial burdens and bring festive cheer to those facing hardship.
"We've issued a waiver to all patients unable to leave hospitals due to medical bills and families struggling to pay for their loved ones' release from the funeral home," Governor Sakaja announced on his Facebook page, expressing appreciation for the improved service delivery in city healthcare facilities.

This initiative arrives at a crucial moment. Nairobi Funeral Home, previously known as City Mortuary, has grappled with a growing number of unclaimed bodies. In September, plans were announced to dispose of 193 unclaimed bodies as families failed to claim them due to financial constraints or other challenges.
By waiving these fees, Governor Sakaja strives to alleviate the emotional and financial strain on struggling families facing medical bills or the loss of loved ones. This act of compassion extends a helping hand to those most in need during the festive season.
The meeting included Board Chairs and CEOs of key Nairobi hospitals, such as Mama Lucy Kibaki Hospital and Mbagathi Hospital, showcasing the governor's focus on healthcare initiatives. He also commended the leadership of these hospitals for their efforts in improving service delivery, highlighting the positive strides being made in Nairobi's healthcare system.
Governor Sakaja's decision to waive medical bills and mortuary fees is a welcome act of kindness and support for vulnerable communities in Nairobi. This gesture offers a ray of hope and festive cheer to those grappling with difficult circumstances, allowing them to celebrate the season with a lighter heart.
