KeNHA advises Waiyaki Way Motorists to brace for month-long traffic disruption

The disruptions will take place from December 11, 2024, to January 17, 2025, due to the construction of the Kangemi bridge.
Motorists using Waiyaki Way in Nairobi should brace for major disruptions after the Kenya National Highways Authority (KeNHA) has announced scheduled construction works at the Kangemi Interchange.
The disruptions will take place from December 11, 2024, to January 17, 2025, due to the construction of the Kangemi bridge.

"We would like to inform the public of a temporary traffic disruption at Kangemi Interchange on A8 Highway (Waiyaki Way)," KeNHA stated in an announcement.
The construction of the bridge will be done in two phases, with each phase causing different diversions to traffic flow.
Phase 1: Nairobi-bound
From December 11 to December 26, 2024, traffic heading toward Nairobi will be diverted to the right-hand side of the road.
This first phase of the construction works will require motorists to adjust their routes, and KeNHA has urged them to follow the proposed traffic management plan to ensure smooth flow.

Phase 2: Nakuru/Rironi-bound
The second phase will run from December 28, 2024, to January 17, 2025, and will affect traffic heading towards Nakuru and Rironi.
This traffic will be diverted to the left-hand side of the road to allow for continued construction of the bridge.
KeNHA has advised all road users to cooperate with the police and traffic marshals who will be present to help manage the diversions and reduce congestion.
Motorists are also urged to remain vigilant and patient as the construction work progresses over the month-long disruption.
In addition to the traffic disruptions along Waiyaki Way, KeNHA also announced partial road closures on the Thika Superhighway from December 12-17, 2024, to facilitate the construction of a footbridge at the Juja Highpoint (Centurion) area.
The closure will lead to further traffic diversions, with Nairobi-bound traffic being diverted behind the Lexo petrol station, while Thika-bound traffic will be diverted behind Centurion hotel before rejoining the main highway.
This construction is part of KeNHA's ongoing efforts to enhance pedestrian safety along the busy highway.
Last December, former Transport Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen ordered the construction of at least four footbridges along the Thika Superhighway, aiming to curb accidents and improve pedestrian mobility.
Footbridges are planned for construction at several locations, including Juja Highpoint, Kihunguro, Juja Mona Park, and Clay Works/Northlands.
Additional footbridges are also planned for other sections of the highway, with engineering designs already completed.
