Notorious drug trafficker nabbed in sting operation on Lunga Lunga Highway

Authorities say the operation led to the seizure of 20 kilogrammes of high-grade bhang (Skank), estimated to be worth Sh1 million, which had been trafficked from Swaziland.

Anti-narcotics detectives have arrested a notorious drug transporter linked to a wider Tanzanian trafficking network in a major sting operation along the Lunga Lunga Highway.

The suspect, identified as Shee Hussein Nyuki, was captured during a coordinated raid by detectives at Ramisi and Base Titanium in Kwale County.

Nyuki, believed to be a key player in a cross-border syndicate, had successfully bypassed multiple police roadblocks while transporting illegal substances into the country.

Authorities say the operation led to the seizure of 20 kilogrammes of high-grade bhang (Skank), estimated to be worth Sh1 million, which had been trafficked from Swaziland.

Additionally, detectives recovered 500 grammes of pure heroin, valued at Sh1.5 million, allegedly smuggled from Tanzania through the Lunga Lunga border.

Nyuki is currently being held at Msambweni Police Station and is expected to be arraigned in court on Monday. According to investigators, the drugs were destined for distribution in known drug dens within the South Coast and Mombasa regions.

“This is a well-organised syndicate that has been flooding drugs into our streets. We have been closely monitoring their activities, and this arrest marks a major breakthrough in dismantling their network,” said a senior detective, who requested anonymity due to the sensitivity of the case.

The arrest comes barely a month after two brothers, who worked as mechanics at the railway yards in Mombasa, were apprehended in connection with another major drug trafficking operation. In that case, detectives recovered 750 kilogrammes of bhang worth Sh22.5 million during a dawn raid in Kombani, also in Kwale County.

Investigations have revealed that the mechanics were working for a large-scale supplier with links to Tanzanian traffickers operating through Migori. The cartel is reportedly behind numerous illegal drug shipments, with networks supplying substances to areas as far as Malindi.

Police have reiterated their commitment to combating drug trafficking, warning that traffickers will face the full force of the law under Kenya’s strict anti-narcotics legislation.

“We will not relent. These cartels are going down one by one,” an officer involved in the operation vowed.

Authorities have urged the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities as efforts to curb drug trafficking intensify across the coastal region.
