After Kwale, the cruise ship will proceed to Mombasa and Lamu ports, continuing its showcase of Kenya’s coastal charm to international travellers.

Shimoni port in Kwale County has received its first cruise vessel since becoming operational, marking a major milestone for the county’s tourism sector.

The SH Diana, operated by Swan Hellenic Expeditions, docked at the new port on Sunday carrying 120 tourists and 129 crew members.

“The arrival of this cruise ship means a major boost to the livelihoods of our people and promotes Kwale both nationally and internationally. We are grateful to the national government for completing the Shimoni port. The benefits are already beginning to show,” she said.

Governor Achani added that the port would not only draw tourists but also strengthen trade and investment opportunities in the region.

The visitors are expected to tour key attractions in the county, including Kisite-Mpunguti Marine Park and Reserve, the Wasini Island Boardwalk, and other scenic and cultural sites.

Captain Jaanus Hannes of the SH Diana expressed his excitement about the visit, saying,

“Shimoni is one of the places we were eager to visit. It perfectly fits the kind of unique experience we want to offer our guests.”
