By |

Despite this closure, the club assures its members and patrons that other amenities will remain operational, ensuring uninterrupted service delivery during the renovation period.

KPA Sports Club Mbaraki, a pivotal venue for sports enthusiasts and the home ground of Bandari Football Club has announced its temporary closure to undergo extensive renovations.

The decision, aimed at enhancing the facilities to meet modern standards, comes as part of the Authority's commitment to promoting wellness through sports.

The renovation project primarily focuses on upgrading the main field and tartan track for athletics.

“This is to inform all our esteemed customers that the KPA Sports Club Mbaraki will undergo renovations of the main field and tartan track for athletics. The renovations of the Club are in line with the Authority's commitment to provide standard sporting facilities that support the wellness of members. In this regard, we will close the targeted area for six months with effect from March 11, 2024, to allow the contractor to carry out the works," a letter by the club read.

During that period, the club will remain open as usual and we look forward to continuing to provide better service delivery,” the letter read.

Despite this closure, the club assures its members and patrons that other amenities will remain operational, ensuring uninterrupted service delivery during the renovation period.

The announcement of the closure shook the local football community, notably Bandari FC and its devoted fans.

Bandari's head coach, John Baraza, acknowledged his understanding of the situation while admitting its influence on the team and its fans.

In response to the temporary closure, Bandari FC plans to relocate their home matches to alternative venues such as Ukunda Stadium, Moi Stadium in Voi, or Mwanyumba Stadium in Wundanyi.

“While the adjustment may pose logistical challenges, the team remains committed to maintaining their competitive edge and delivering exciting matches for their loyal fans.”

The closure of KPA Sports Club Mbaraki elicited mixed reactions from the local community.

While some expressed disappointment at the temporary loss of their favourite sporting venue, others like Kassim Ali voiced support for the renovations, acknowledging the long-term benefits they would bring.

“Not only do we come here to watch Bandari games but even local football games happen here. This is the backbone of Mombasa football, but if it is for a good cause we cannot wait to see the result. But they should fast track and ensure they are done by a deadline of six months because if not we would have hurt the community,” he said.

For many, the club served not just as a place to watch football but also as a social hub and a symbol of community pride.

As the renovation project commences, all eyes are on the contractors to ensure timely completion while maintaining the highest quality standards.

The temporary inconvenience is outweighed by the promise of a revitalized sports facility that will serve the community for years to come.
