Governor Fatuma Achani said the event would place Kwale at the forefront of sports tourism in the region.
“Hosting the East Africa Classic Safari Rally gives Kwale a chance to showcase our county internationally. Beyond the excitement of motorsport, the rally is set to bring substantial economic benefits to local businesses, from hotels and restaurants to transport providers and retail traders,” she said.
Finalising arrangements
Officials from the State Department of Sports, led by Secretary Administration Evans Achoki, together with Kenya Motor Sports President Maina Muturi, met the governor to finalise arrangements and ensure coordination between national and county authorities.
Achoki praised Kwale’s preparedness and assured support from the national government to guarantee a safe and smooth event.
Deputy Governor Chirema Kombo and senior county officials, including County Roads Executive Ali Joto, Chief Officer for Tourism Anthony Mwamunga, and Chief Officer for Social Services Riziki Mwasoza, pledged to facilitate logistics, security, and public engagement during the rally.
Analysts and tourism stakeholders say hosting international motorsport events such as the Classic Safari Rally can be a game-changer for coastal counties.
The influx of visitors is expected to create temporary jobs, increase hotel occupancy, and boost local trade. Travel agencies in the region have already reported heightened bookings linked to the rally.
The East Africa Classic Safari Rally has earned a reputation as one of the world’s toughest classic car competitions. Drivers navigate rough terrain, steep hills, and challenging weather conditions, testing endurance and skill.
Beyond the competitive aspect, the event draws attention to the hosting region’s infrastructure and potential for investment in tourism-related ventures.
Residents of Kwale are preparing to welcome participants and spectators, with local vendors and community groups making arrangements to benefit from the increased footfall. The county administration anticipates the rally will strengthen its position as a key destination for both sports tourism and cultural experiences along the Kenyan coast.
