Mvita Deputy County Commissioner (DCC) Ronald Mwiwawi pointed out that the shipment, valued at Sh1.75 million, originated from remote areas, with Mombasa being its final stop.

He expressed the government's commitment to enforcing stringent measures to prevent drugs and illicit goods from other regions from entering the Port city.

“Majority of these drugs originate from outside the county, and the government has initiated measures such as establishing roadblocks to prevent the influx of drugs and illegal substances into their jurisdiction,” he said.

Drug trafficking

Mwiwawi further stated that transportation companies must be vigilant in thoroughly inspecting the products they transport to prevent the facilitation of drug trafficking and other illegal activities.

“We are working on fostering strong ties with transportation firms and the community to establish efficient communication channels, aiming to prevent any drug influx into their county,” he stated.

He mentioned the ongoing effort to combat the drug and illegal alcohol trade is currently at its peak in Mombasa County, with security forces actively addressing the issue around the clock.

“The collaborative efforts of alert citizens and security forces are crucial in achieving victory in the fight against the harmful activity of drug trafficking and substance abuse,” he said.

Mvita Sub-County Police Commander Maxwell Agoro highlighted that a collaborative effort among multiple agencies in addressing the drug issue has significantly reduced the problem, especially in Mvita Sub-County in Mombasa.

Agoro further mentioned that daily operations and raids have been carried out, resulting in significant containment of drug and substance peddling in the Sub-County.

“The collaborative effort among various agencies is producing the intended outcomes in combating drugs and illicit substances,” he said.

He emphasised that all police units, along with National government administration officers, are closely cooperating to ensure success in this endeavour.
