Seven suspects arrested, cocaine worth Sh3.7m seized in Lamu drug bust

The suspects have been transferred and booked at the Malindi Police Station, where they await processing for prosecution.

Detectives in Lamu County have arrested seven suspects accused of being involved in drug trafficking.

During an intelligence-driven operation, detectives from the Anti-narcotic Unit seized about 928 grams of cocaine, valued at approximately Sh3.7 million, in Lamu County.



Among the arrested individuals are Munaa Omar Bori (34), Mote Mwalimu Shamuni (41), Shamuni Mwalimu Shamuni (41), Omar Mohamed Omar (23), Mohamed Abdallah (35), Fami Abdulrahman Mohamed (42), and Fatma Mote Yusuf (40).

According to a police statement obtained by The Eastleigh Voice, the suspects were found in possession of approximately 1 kilogram of cocaine, along with cash totalling Sh113,135, believed to be proceeds from drug sales, as well as assorted packaging materials and weighing scales.

"This operation, conducted in Lamu Central, is part of our intensified efforts against the sale, distribution, and use of illegal drugs nationwide," saida senior detective. All suspects are currently in custody awaiting court proceedings.



“This rapid response highlights the government's firm commitment to fighting drug trafficking in the area, putting public safety and law enforcement first.”

Authorities targeted multiple residences suspected of involvement in drug-related activities. In Munaa's residence, a weighing machine and approximately 85 grams of pellets were discovered.

Similarly, in Mote’s house, detectives found a clear polythene bag containing approximately 164 grams of cocaine. Another raid at Shamuni’s residence yielded a polythene bag with about 354 grams of crack. Cocaine, weighing approximately 325 grams, was found in Fatma's house.

The suspects have been transferred and booked at the Malindi Police Station, where they await processing for prosecution.
