Detectives seize cocaine, heroin worth Sh3.7 million in Coast region

According to detectives, the country has toughened its narcotics laws to intensify the fight against drug trafficking.

Detectives in Mombasa and Kilifi counties made a significant breakthrough on Tuesday, seizing what is believed to be cocaine and heroin valued at approximately Sh3.7 million.

During a coordinated operation on May 7, 2024, a task force comprising the Anti-narcotic Unit (ANU) and Transnational Organized Crime Unit (TOCU) detectives recovered 50 grams of cocaine and 1.15 kilograms of heroin.

In Kisauni, specifically at Mwandoni, law enforcement officers apprehended Hussein Mansur Salim in possession of roughly 50 grams of cocaine, with an estimated value of Sh250,000.

Another arrest was made at Stage ya Paka, targeting Ali Swale, who was found with approximately 1kg of heroin, valued at Sh3,000,000.

Similarly, Harrison Mwenda Kiambi was intercepted in Mtwapa Maweni with 150 grams of heroin, valued at Sh450,000.

A senior detective involved in the operation said, "These operations underscore our collective commitment to combat the illegal drug trade and associated crimes."

RECOVERY OF MORE DRUGS AND ARREST OF SUSPECTS

Suspected Cocaine and Heroine estimated at Sh3.7 million in street value was also recovered in another operation conducted in other parts of Mombasa and Kilifi Counties.

Around 7:30 pm, another drug trafficking suspect was apprehended. Detectives arrested Paul Musa in the Kashani area with approximately 500kgs of bhang.

The suspects are in custody pending arraignment.

This comes as the fight against drugs at the coast and the country at large intensifies.

The security agents are determined to continue their efforts in combating drug trafficking, particularly in the Coast region.

According to detectives, the country has toughened its narcotics laws to intensify the fight against drug trafficking.

Police investigations show that many known dealers are relocating to neighbouring countries as the government remains steadfast in its efforts.
