Witnesses said that after the accident, residents scrambled for free sacks of muguka, stealing about 500 of them before the police arrived.

Two people died while one was injured when a vehicle transporting muguka overturned in Tsimba in Kwale County on Monday.

Kwale Police Commander Stephen Ng'etich said the two died at the scene on Kwale-Kombani Road, where traffic was interrupted for the better part of the morning.

"The survivor is recuperating at Kwale Hospital," he said and urged drivers to always observe traffic rules.

Witnesses told The Eastleigh Voice that the transporter was spending when he lost control of the vehicle.

"We were sitting outside our shop when we heard a loud bang. When we looked around we noticed that a vehicle had overturned," said one Hamisi Ali.

Another witness, Suleiman Ali, said the driver had been speeding to avoid inspectorate officers.

The witnesses said that after the accident, residents scrambled for free sacks of muguka, stealing about 500 of them before the police arrived.

The stimulant has become difficult to find in the county following stringent measures to tame trade and consumption, primarily due to health concerns.

Ng'etich said, "I ask all those who looted from the vehicle to return the sacks."
