Police officers in Kilifi have arrested four suspects, including two Wells Fargo employees, and recovered bhang valued at Sh1.7 million in an operation led by the Kilifi North Sub-County Police Commander (SCPC).

The raid took place in the Mwezangombe area of Kilifi Town, following intelligence reports.

“Officers stormed a rented house and seized 1,130 large rolls of bhang weighing 56 kilograms. The consignment was discovered in the residence of one of the suspects,” police stated.

The operation, supported by officers from Malindi, resulted in the suspects being booked at Kilifi Police Station. The four will be arraigned on Monday as investigations continue.

According to the law enforcement authorities, the operation is part of a broader crackdown on drug trafficking in the region.

Last week, police in Kwale County intercepted a vehicle carrying bhang worth Sh17 million and arrested one suspect. The operation, conducted along the Samburu-Kinango road, targeted a green van transporting approximately half a tonne of cannabis sativa.

Detectives arrested the driver of the van at the scene, though another suspect in the convoy managed to escape. According to police, the consignment was en route to a known drug distributor based in Diani. "The cannabis had been sourced from suppliers in Tanzania and passed through the Isebania border point in Migori County," the police report stated.

In a related operation, detectives in Bamburi's Fisheries Estate arrested four individuals and seized over half a tonne of cannabis sativa valued at approximately Sh16.5 million. The suspects were apprehended last Friday after a meticulous tracking operation across several counties.

Police believe these operations are connected to a larger drug trafficking network smuggling cannabis from Tanzania into Kenya. "The detectives meticulously tracked the vehicle as it travelled through several counties, maintaining a low profile to avoid detection. Upon reaching Bamburi's Fisheries Estate, the suspects were arrested, and the drugs were confiscated," a police spokesperson said.

These recent arrests and seizures highlight the ongoing efforts by law enforcement to curb drug trafficking in the region and disrupt the networks involved.

The suspects are expected to face strict legal action as investigations continue to uncover the full extent of the trafficking operations.
